About Our Events
The Quadra Community Centre and Blenkin Park are host to a plethora of events and activities during the course of a year. You will find a diverse variety of activities to take part in (check out our Events Calendar tab on this site to see everything that is going on each week). There truly is something for everyone; whether it be a concert, a dance, the Community Kitchen Lunch, Friday Flicks, the Fall Fair, Music Festivals, Folk dancing, Yoga, Belly Dancing, Summer Rec, Tennis, Slo-Pitch, Fitness Classes or a club or group to join, there is so much on offer. That is just a snapshot of what goes on at your Community Centre. The events listed below are the larger annual events spearheaded by the Quadra Island Recreation Society (or by a committee of the Rec Society) and have become some of our most longstanding traditions on the island as well as fundraising efforts in support of the Community Centre.
May Day is Quadra's oldest community celebration dating back to 1898. It is a non-commercial family event that takes place at Rebecca Spit. It is a vibrant and entertaining expression of the cooperation and diversity of the Quadra Island community. It includes a parade with prizes for best costumes, a May Court, a variety of races, tug-of-war, a grease pole, a driftwood fort building competition, face paint, belly dancing, box lunch auction and in general, a wonderful chance to come together with friends and neighbours in a beautiful and scenic environment to celebrate our community.
It is always on the Saturday after the May long weekend.
Please remember to keep your dogs at home.
Check out our Galleries tab on this site to see more May Day photos.
Quadra Island is home to an abundant and talented group of creative and artistic professionals. The first full weekend of June sees artists and craftspeople open their studios for visitors. Those without studios, display their work at the Community Centre on West Rd. Many studios are open all summer. Check the website: www.quadraislandarts.com for more information.
Quilt and Garden Tour
Enjoy beautiful island gardens decorated with quilts by the Quadra Quilters. The tour happens every second year towards the end of June (falling on years with even numbers, 2014, 2016, 2018, etc). The Quilt and Garden Tour is a fundraiser for the Quadra Community Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the tourist booth adjacent to the credit union, which is on the right, at the top of the hill, after you drive off the ferry. Tickets are available the week prior at the following locations: Hummingbird Office Supply, Works of H'Art and both Quarda Island Tourist Info Centre and Campbell River info Centre.
Quadra's annual (now on every other year) Fall Fair is a lively and creative family friendly event, where community members can showcase their homegrown and creative talents. This event was spearheaded by a high energy, committed group of local volunteers in 2011, who are a committee of Rec Society. It has been a huge success! There is always plenty of delicious food on hand, fun musical and theatrical events, artisan vendors, farm animals to pet and prizes galore!
Halloween Fun Night
On October 31 the Community Centre organizes a beautiful display of Halloween fireworks in Blenkin Park at 8:30 p.m. as well as (depending the number of volunteers) kids games and a Haunted House in the Main Hall. Thanks to generous donors and some amazing volunteers this years (2013) Fun Night was a blast, we even managed to scare a few people! If you would like to get involved and be part of the action next year contact us in late September to volunteer.
Quadra's Christmas Craft Fair
The annual Christmas Craft Fair is on Friday November 24th (from 4:00-9:00 pm) and Saturday November 25th (from10:00-3:00 pm) in 2017 and is held at the Community Centre. The Quadra Christmas Crafts Fair is a joyful, warm and inspiring way to kick of the festive season. Beautiful locally handmade arts and crafts abound and there is always something yummy on offer in Kringle's Kitchen. Shoppers can enjoy the quite classy ambiance of an evening shop on Friday and parents can get in their photo op with the kids on Saturday while the little ones ask Santa for their special Christmas wish. What better way to feel good about the start of the busy holiday season than supporting your local economy, getting your shopping done early, all while having a fun, stress free experience meeting local artisans!
The first day of the Fair is Friday Evening from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and the second day is on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.. Santa arrives by Firetruck at noon ( to 1:30 p.m.) on Saturday! To reserve a table for the Christmas Craft Fair please consult the Winter Recreation brochure and calendar to find both contact numbers and available days for booking.
